Today, the Society for the Study of Women’s Health (SSWH), will be joining its partner organizations, the Agency for the Development of Women and Children (ADWAC) and Youth Harvest Foundation-Ghana (YHFG), to launch our gender transformative research (GTR) project entitled, ‘Shifting gender norms for improved maternal and adolescent health in The Gambia and Ghana.’ This project aims to study and test effective means of working with healthcare providers and male partners in The Gambia and Ghana to improve adolescent sexual and reproductive health services and promote male partner involvement in birth preparedness and complication readiness (BPCR). The project will also look at intersecting vulnerabilities of adolescents to support changing harmful gender norms and practices. It is expected to provide scientific evidence on the effectiveness of the gender transformative approach in changing the attitudes of healthcare providers and male partners towards gender and sexuality and promoting male participation in birth preparedness and complication readiness (BPCR).
