Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI)
Society for the Study of Women’s Health (SSWH), a local scientific organization that seeks to promote the health and social well-being of women in The Gambia through applied research and evidence-based advocacy is seeking to recruit a Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) for its implementation research project titled, Shifting Gender Norms for Improved Maternal and Adolescent Health in The Gambia.
Required qualifications and experience:
- A Master’s degree in a related field (gender, development, statistics, international development, sexual and reproductive health, or other social sciences)
- Previous relevant experience of research in contexts of gender and development, or maternal and adolescent sexual and reproductive health.
- Proven experience in writing research reports, evaluation assignments, and policy briefs
- Proven experience in project management and leading research teams
- Proven expertise in quantitative and qualitative data analysis and tools (for example, R, SPSS, NVIVO)
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English
- Keen attention to detail
- Ability to be patient and to work well within a national and international team
- Ability to cope well under pressure, occasionally work irregular hours, and meet tight deadlines
Roles:
- Research & Fieldwork
- Undertake and lead gender transformative research including fieldwork and primary data collection
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection (such as surveys, case studies, focus groups, field observations, and key informant interviews)
- Support project fieldwork and monitor the quality of data collection
- Provide input to improve the quality of the field teams’ notes, transcripts, outputs, etc
- Organizational Support and Project Coordination
- Train field teams and colleagues as required on components of the project cycle and research standards
- Plan fieldwork logistics, and adequate resource management with project officers
- Convene annual planning meetings of Project Steering Committees (PSC) and relevant stakeholders in sexual, reproductive, and maternal health.
- Training of project staff on project implementation strategies, gender transformative approach (GTA), and intervention mapping.
- Convene bi-annual country project team planning and review meetings.
- Responsible for the actual implementation of project interventions by providing technical support to Project Officers.
- Ensure project inclusion and gender equality strategies are effectively implemented at all levels as well as lead project Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) at the community level
- Supervise the research fieldwork of Project Officers who shall be assigned to specific geographic areas for field work and implementation activities of the project
- Reporting: Reports to the Director of SSWH while working closely with the Project Principal Investigator (PI) on research and technical issues.
